GUIDE FOR AUTHORS

Psychiatria Polska is a body of Polish Psychiatric Association. The journal’s profile covers works in the field of psychiatry and clinical applications of psychology. The journal accepts for publication: original papers, reviews, case studies, and letters to Editors. The authors do not receive remuneration for copyrights and transfer indefinitely the copyrights to the published text fully to the publisher (KRW PTP).
The Editors strive to ensure the highest possible quality of works, but the authors are responsible for their substantive and ethical content. Papers submitted by March 15, 2025 are published in print in Polish as well as in Open Access mode, in common Internet access (at www. psychiatriapolska.pl) in Polish and in parallel English version. Papers submitted from March 15, 2025 are published in English language only. Their availability is regulated by Creative Commons CC-BY license and the SHERPA RoMEO Blue rule. In the qualification of papers for publication the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki, and in the case of original papers – the evaluation of bioethics committees and implementation of international rules of conducting experiments on animals are taken into account. In the case of case studies, it is necessary to obtain the patient’s consent for the publication of the case report and to attach a statement on the necessary anonymization of data.
1. Papers that do not meet the formal requirements will be returned for correction before preliminary substantive evaluation by the Editors.
2. Length – including figures, tables, list of references, and a summary – must not exceed for original papers and reviews – 28 800 signs with spaces, case studies –18 000 signs with spaces, letters to Editors ‒ 9 000 signs with spaces.
3. Papers should be submitted through the journal electronic editorial system, available at http://www.editorialsystem.com/PP. Adhere to the information given by the system. Make sure that all required information on the authors, their order, affiliation, address details, and ORCID numbers are entered correctly in all places required by the system. The introduction of changes in the composition, the order of the authors or the contribution requires submission of a declaration signed by all the authors.
4. Authors submitting papers are required to submit a statement regarding the consent for processing of personal data necessary to carry out the publishing process and dissemination of the article by the Publisher (KRW PTP) and entities cooperating for these purposes: the printing company Technet, Poczta Polska S.A. The author submitting a work on behalf of himself and his co-authors is required to obtain their prior written consent for personal data processing, and to provide it to the Publisher. The author submitting the work (and possible co-authors) is required to conclude an agreement concerning the transfer of the copyrights of the work to the Publisher. The contract form, after downloading from the editorial system, printing, signing by all co-authors, and after scanning the document, must be entered into this system during the submission of the work. After accepting the work for publication, the author may receive a copy of the contract signed by the person representing the Publisher. The submitting author is required to attach a properly completed Authors’ Statement, a template of which can be downloaded from the system. The submitting author bears primary responsibility for providing the required information correctly to avoid scientific misconduct.
5. Upon detection of a situation where someone has made a substantial contribution to the development of publication and his/her share has not been disclosed as one of the authors or in the acknowledgments (ghost-writing) – and on the contrary – when the person’s participation is minimal or none at all and yet he/she is mentioned as the author/co-author (guest-authorship), the Editors are obliged to notify this to the proper authorities.
6. Authors are required to attach a cover letter justifying the submission of their work for publication.
7. Submitted works should be prepared according to the following template: Title in English Authors Authors’ affiliations (upper index) Summary Length of min. 150, max. 200 words. In the case of original papers, there must be a structured summary, which should include in separate paragraphs: 1. Aim, 2. Material and method, 3. Results, 4. Conclusions. Three key words according to Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). The text of original papers should be divided into the following chapters: Introduction, Aims, Material and method, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Limitations, References, Address and e-mail address of the corresponding author. The text of reviews and case studies: Introduction and aim, Method, Results, Conclusions, Limitations, References, Address and e-mail address of the correspond ing author.
8. One page should contain 1800 characters with spaces, font ‒ Times New Roman, size 12, line spacing 1.5. Titles and subtitles should be written in text font. Decimal places in numbers should be separated by periods (applies to the English version). The text should be written in a uniform black color. Colored markings in the text are allowed only to identify the changes required by reviewers, they should not be included in the final versions of files for the Editors. Tables must be performed in Word for Windows. In tables and descriptions of drawings, the Arial Narrow CE letter size of 10 points must be used. The number of tables, graphs and drawings should be limited to the neces sary minimum. The printed version of the journal does not include colors; color versions, including for instance pictures, may be included in the Internet version. Tables, graphs and drawings should be located in the appropriate place in the text of the work.
9. References should not exceed 50 items; only those items that are cited in the text should be included. Works marked as “in press” may only be included if they have been accepted for publication and are awaiting publication. In the text, the number of reference position ought to be indicated in square brackets and the numbers should be given according to the order in which the works are quoted in the text (consecutively). Each reference position should be written in a new line, preceded by a number. Please observe uniform punctuation (Vancouver standard) according to the pattern: For papers published in journals: surnames of the authors followed by their name initials, title of the article, title of the journal (according to Index Medicus), year; volume(issue): pages, DOI number. Example: Kowalski N, Nowak A. Schizophrenia – own research. Psychiatr. Pol. 1919, 33(34): 210–223. If the number of the authors of cited position exceeds six: Kowalska A, Kowalski B, Kowalewska C, Kowalewski D, Kowal E, Kowal F, et al. For books: surnames of the authors followed by their initials, title of the book, place of publication, publisher, year of publication. Example: Kowalski ZG. Psychiatry. London: Press; 1923. For a chapter of a book: surnames of the authors followed by their name initials, title, In: surnames and name initials of the editor of the volume, title, place of publication, publisher, year of publication, pages. Example: Szymański BM. Depressive states. In: Kowalski AM, Głogowski P, editors. Psychiatry Manual. 2nd ed. Oslo: Psyche; 1972. p. 203–248. Page numbers should be separated by a pause with no intervals and not by hyphen (short pause).
10. Correct psychiatric terminology and international drug names should be used. Abbreviations should be used in accordance with the International System of Units (SI).
11. The works are first evaluated by the Editors, who may decide to reject a work before submitting it for review.
12. Original papers, reviews and case studies are reviewed anonymously by at least two reviewers. When submitting their work, authors are required to provide a list of 5 reviewers, which the Editors may, but are not obliged to, take into consideration. After receiving the review, submit the manuscript to the editorial system with the reviewers’ comments incorporated (with color indicating the introduced changes based on reviews) and attach a detailed response to the review, referring to the reviewers’ comments and informing them of all changes made as a result of the review. Revised versions of papers must be submitted within two months. Failure to com ply with this deadline will be considered a resignation from the publication.
13. The Editors reserve the right to correct stylistic errors and nomenclatures and to make the necessary abbreviations without contact with the author.
14. It is possible to have the paper accepted for printing published in the form of online first (ahead of print). It will appear on the website of Psychiatria Polska with DOI number within two months from issuing the invoice paid thereafter. After the waiting period in the queue for publication, it will be published in the standard version (electronic and paper).
